Free Guitar Picks

April 29, 2008 | Filed under: This and That

Our sister company, Musicnotes.com has recently their logo, but they still have a lot of guitar picks with the old logo on them.

They’d like to get rid of these to make room for the new ones, so if you want some picks, let us know and we’ll send you some free of charge.

They are nice Clayton picks, available in both medium and heavy thickness. One small catch though: only U.S. users on this giveaway.

To claim them, please see this forum post for more info:

Licensed vs. Unlicensed Tab Sites

April 28, 2008 | Filed under: MXTabs News

As MXTabs continues to rebuild in anticipation of our official launch this summer, we thought we’d give a quick update on the current state of licensed tabs vs. the leader in unlicensed (at least as far as U.S. copyright goes) tabs, Ultimate-Guitar.

The other two sites listed below (tabs.guitarworld.com and guitarinstructor.com) represent the other two instances we are aware of for …

Tab Displays Expanding to Other Countries

April 24, 2008 | Filed under: Alpha Announcements, MXTabs News

One of the most asked questions we get here at MX is some variation of “When will tabs be available in [insert country name]?”

As we said back when we launched the Alpha version of MXTabs, tab displays will be limited to the United States at first, but then expanding to other countries once we start to work out the licensing …

Major Content Deal Today

April 18, 2008 | Filed under: MXTabs News

As many of you know, we’re working very hard here at MXTabs to get as much music licensed for inclusion on the free MXTabs community as possible.  And as you also probably know, we are far from done.

The good news is that we’ve finalized another deal today that should free up a lot more content.  Since we can’t officially announce …

Guitar On Fire: MX Wallpaper Round 2

April 18, 2008 | Filed under: Downloads

Well, our previous plan to be offering a new download every week didn’t work out.  As amazing as it may sound, our designer has other more important things to do than to work on desktop wallpaper all day long.

Anyway, this week we do have some new wallpaper to download… and in my opinion it’s pretty bad-ass.

Get your MX Wallpaper action …

New Tabs from Rush, Creed, Alient Ant Farm and Others

April 16, 2008 | Filed under: Alpha Announcements

Even though there haven’t been a lot of noticeable changes to the actual MXTabs site recently, it doesn’t mean nothing is happening.  While we are continuing work on our new tab submission system (including “limbo”), our data team is busy updating data and using our user-submitted data to license additional songs for posting on the MXTabs site.

Today you should see …

“Anyone Else But You” from Juno

April 15, 2008 | Filed under: Featured Tabs

We here at MXTabs would like to thank Adam Green and Kimya Dawson for opting to license tabs for their music through MXTabs.  Because of them, we are able to offer free guitar tabs for their song “Anyone Else But You,”  a song featured prominently in the movie ‘Juno.’

We also have quite a …

Site Speed / Slowdowns

April 8, 2008 | Filed under: Alpha Announcements

As traffic to MXTabs has picked up, the site has been experiencing some slowdowns. We are aware of the problems and are working to fix this issue.

This is one of the benefits of the alpha testing of the site, it allows us to better gauge how the site runs on the network and tweak and change things accordingly.

Thank you …

New Tabs Posted

April 8, 2008 | Filed under: Alpha Announcements

While most of us have been working on some back-end things, including getting the tab submission system built, our data people have been hard at work updating data to get more songs on the site.

Today there was a pretty big chunk of new stuff added to the site, including music from Chiodos, Moby, Yngwie Malmsteen, Bon Jovi, Sublime, Linkin Park, …
