Just wanted to post a quick update on things that have been recently changed as well as a few upcoming changes / additions.

What’s New:
We have just about secured a contract with another very big publisher.  We’ve turned on quite a few of their songs (basically added a few thousand more songs to the currently active list), but have there will be a lot more once they tie directly into our back-end licensing system.

What’s Coming Next?

1.) User Metadata: The new MXTabs is using the old MXTabs song and tab database, which obviously was not optimized for a fully-licensed “official” web site.  Therefore there are a lot of data errors or just plain data omissions.  One of the big things we’re going to have in place during the early phases of the alpha is a system for our alpha members to help us with updating data so that we can try to get licenses on songs that we cannot get any sort of match on with publishers right now.  We’ve updated quite a bit of this ourselves, but with over 100,000 tabs this is a pretty big task and we’re going to need some help.  More news on this once it’s in place.

2.) Rate/Review Tabs: The community portion of MXTabs is by far the most important, and the way that we can ensure we have the best tabs is through a rating system (with eventually a system to “vote a tab off the site.”)  Tab ratings are going to be one of the first community-based features added during the alpha phase.

3.) Comments: Each tab will have a comments area attached to it.  This will allow people to give their own opinion on small changes or other ways to approach a tab, as well as to do the usual comment banter / complaining / praising that inevitably goes along with it.

4.) User Forums: As mentioned previously, we are going to build a system where people can give feedback during the alpha in an actual forum.  For now just leave comments on the posts in this blog.  These new forums will also be the new musician community discussion area on MXTabs.

 There’s a lot more coming as well, including uploading tabs, user profile pages, etc… but the ones listed above are what’s next on our agenda.
