As we’re working on adding new forums and profiles, we’ve updated a couple other things over the week:
1) Bands with “The” in the title are now NOT found under the letter “T”. So, The Beatles would be found under B. Good stuff.
2) Alpha blog updates on the home page. If you don’t want to grab the RSS Feed for the MX testing site, you can now see the last posts we’ve made on the home page of the site. It’s neat-o.
3) 0-9: You can finally browse for artists that don’t begin with a letter!
A few things coming over the weekend/early next week:
- The “Tab Explained” link will work.
- No more right-click blocking. Unless it’s absolutely necessary based on publisher requests.
- When you browse bands by letter, you will see a link to expand the results to every band for that letter. This is for those of you who prefer not to search and just CTL+F to find the band link on the page.
- When you search for specific tab type (bass for instance), you will only see search results for songs that have tabs matching your instrument selection.
- FLAG COMMENT: We’ll be allowing all of our users to flag a comment if you feel it is either completely irrelevant to the tab file, spammy, or doesn’t belong in some other way. This is your site, we want you to have as much control as possible.
Also, remember our T-Shirt Design Contest. Email JPG’s of your design entries to mxtabs [at] mxtabs [period] net
Have a great weekend MXers; and thanks for everyone’s valuable feedback.

the things to come look cool… keep it up guys im lovin the site!
When are we going to test out posting our own personal tabs?
im sure that will come after all of the tabs they already have are finished being processed, defenitely dont want another influx of tabs to deal with right now
But if they’re licensed, wouldn’t we be able to post them?
that would also be up to you, whether or not you all feel like going through more and more after you finish the ones you have now haha
a drop down menu would be kind of nice, or even a ‘database’ of licensed songs that way if you want to make a tab for a ‘new’ band then you can search to see if it is available or if it needs to be created/licensed.
and then theres who will look at it, you could have the mx people look over tabs then submit the before the community for judgement or just straight to the community and the community will (in either way) choose whether it is worthy to be on the site
just some thoughts
I think a drop down menu would be good but also have an option to click if in the case it’s a new band or new material and the song/band isn’t in the database yet.
Than it would send that to you for sorting. Less work for you guys and the tabs would get up quicker in most cases because all wouldn’t need staff to look over.
I also agree with a drop-down menu. That’s probably for the best.
But with posting tabs, could we possibly have a video feed for it? Perhaps if someone has the resources, could record them playing their tab to give the reader a little more heads up?
I think that would be something that would make this site superior to all the others.
So licensing for videos (such as us recording ourselves play our own tabs that we created) is completely different than just regular written tabs and needs a separate licensing?
Damn that’s a bummer.
Sorry to post this here, but I didn’t see any other topic to post this under… Also, forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere…
Is anyone else getting the following error message when trying to access tabs?
An Error Was Encountered

Incorrect key file for table ‘/tmp/#sql_148f_0.MYI’; try to repair it

Thanks!
@Dan: The program for submitting tabs is being built. We’re taking the original process that was there and tweaking it a bit to make it more modern and involve more of the community. We’re also debating whether to give users a drop-down of songs we know we have rights for, or just taking all submissions and sorting them out after we get them. Any opinions on this would be great.
@ Dan
Videos are something we’d really like to have available, but licensing for them is completely different from the licensing we’re doing now… and we don’t want to complicate things any more than they already are. Like I said, I would love to have it… but probably won’t for a little while.
Regarding tab submissions: I think we have a solution in place for determing what songs we have rights for and which ones we do not before someone goes out and tabs out a song and then we can’t post it. What we’re probably going to do is have someone submit a tab request, which we will send out to our license system and attempt to license it by making it look like we actually have the tab… then once we receive a yes or no response, then we’ll let the tabber know if they should go ahead and actually upload the tab or not. Basically you’ll be submitting a tab, but in two steps.
We’re not certain how it will work, but I think this might be the best solution since there is no way to really know every artist we have rights to as there are thousands and thousands… plus if we start getting tab “submissions” for songs that we don’t have rights to yet, it gives us a priority list for who we need to focus on.
Since we’re the first to do something like this, it’s going to be a learning process – but we’re going to do whatever we can to make it as easy to use as possible.
