  1. Dan says:

Too late to submit an idea?

  2. Dan says:

Don’t really wish to make a big “contest” out of it. Rather an Idea that I had which I would like to bring to your attention to see if you like it or not.

In return, all I would really want is two copies of my idea. For my brother and I. Just so we can show our support.

Could I submit the idea on here? I’ve submitted it in two other places, but this would be more centralized.

  3. Conor says:

I believe I was also interested in Dan’s idea for a shirt. I would mind having one either. Heh.

I would offer my own but…my artistry pertains to music and writing than drawing and stuff.

  4. Conor says:

I believe the “contest” should be reannounced to the beginning of the website, when there are PLENTY of people who will participate. And then to those special helpers like me and Dan we could get more free stuff. Just kidding. I’d be willing to pay for my stuff.

But once more people are actively using the site, the contest would be a great idea.

  5. Ben says:

Please put it in another color. Like maybe black – white just isn’t my color. Can’t wait for the other shirts to come out.

  6. Bill says:

Ben – we’ll try to add additional colors eventually along with additional designs as long as we see the demand for them.

  7. Mike says:

Um, as far as I know, sharing music tablature is still legal. No court case that has ever declared them to be a violation of copyright; just intimidation and threats from the MPA and their cronies. Therefore the “Legalize it” logo doesn’t really make sense; you can’t legalize something that’s not illegal.

  8. ZZ says:

MX already sent me one awhile back, the shirts pretty sweet. Have a question, who is ChillyT? Or was that made up?

  9. Bill says:

Chilly-T is the username of the person who tabbed out the MX design for us – so it’s true to the way a real tab is displayed on the site.

  10. Joe says:

    Hey Guys:

    Random questions:

–If offering guitar tablature for a song is illegal without the permission of the copyright holder, what about offering the lyrics for a song?

–Is it legal to offer chord symbols for a song?

–Is it legal for me to write out TAB or chord symbols for a guitar student (who is actually paying me money)? Let’s say that during a guitar lesson, I listen to a recording of a copyrighted song, a song I’ve never heard before and never seen sheet music for before, and I take pencil and paper and write out TAB and chord symbols. Am I breaking the law? (I remind you, the student is in essence paying me for the transcription.)

    Curious,
    Joe

  11. Bill says:

Dan – we can still accept ideas for shirts… it’s just that we did not get very much interest in the shirt contest so we have kind of put it on hold. Nothing official, but we also don’t have enough entries to make it a “contest.”

  12. Bill says:

Mike – guitar tablature is a derivative work, therefore offering guitar tablature for a song, regardless of who does the tabbing, is illegal without the permission of the copyright holder. By “Legalize It” we basically mean “license it.” Just because there hasn’t been a court case doesn’t mean it’s not illegal.
