A Brief Review of Disturbed’s New Album

It seems that heavy metal band Disturbed has been polarizing the metal community ever since their first record was released back in 2000. For some, they are the prime example of a band that favors safe, commercially viable music over experimentation and the so-called “hardcore” aesthetic. Others, however, will tell you that Disturbed’s mixture of melody, metal, and slick soloing is the perfect outlet for those (myself included) who only occasionally wet their feet in the proverbial heavy metal waters. Regardless of your perspective, one thing is for certain: any release by this band warrants discussion, and this is especially true of Disturbed’s new album, Indestructible.

I gave Indestructible a listen the other day, and to be honest, found it to be quite predictable and formulaic. Not that certain tracks (Inside the Fire and Deceiver) didn’t deliver the head-pounding metal rush I was craving, but rather I felt as though I had already heard many of these songs before. You know, that whole “been here, done that” feeling. I think the Allmusic review of Disturbed’s Indestructible summarizes my feelings pretty well:

This is a band that favors reliability over experimentation, and each piece of Indestructible, whether it’s the pseudo-horror/fantasy artwork, the drop-D riffing, or the obligatory “shout-outs” in the liner notes to the purveyors of each member’s gear endorsement deals, fits together like the world’s most obvious puzzle. That said, there’s a reason each of the group’s previous albums bested the million mark, and with metal growing increasingly self-aware and divided between hardcore and hard rock, a new Disturbed record seems like a solid foundation on which to duke it out.

In other words, if you’re looking for the next, great advance in heavy metal music, chances are that you’re not going to find it on Indestructible. But if you’re already a fan of Disturbed then this album shouldn’t disappoint. After all, you’ve already heard most of these songs before anyway, right?

But that’s just my opinion. Feel free to leave a comment below and let me know yours. And as always, be sure to check out MXTabs.net extensive database of Disturbed guitar tabs, bass tabs, and drum tabs. Oh yeah, and one more thing: if you don’t see the tab you’re looking for, or think that you can write a more accurate tab, do us all a favor and submit your own Disturbed tab to MXTabs.net.

Until next time… peace.

(And now for the legal: Please keep in mind that reviews reflect the opinion of the reviewer’s musical taste, and shouldn’t be taken as the “official” stance from MXTabs.net.)
