Two weeks ago I shared with you my featured Song Tabs of Music from the 1960s. In continuing with that idea, today I’m offering up some of my favorite Song Tabs of Music from the 1970s.
I’ve had several people refer to me as an “old soul” in my 28 years on this planet, and I’m sometimes lambasted by my blackberry-wielding friends as an outdated fan of “oldies,” or “classic hits.” However, I don’t really tend to think of this music as “classic,” OR “old,” but rather I just see it as I see it - as good music! The Song Tabs of Music from the 1970s featured today represent just a small sampling of my favorite songs from this era… I hope you enjoy them. Please check back next Friday for a special, Thanksgiving-inspired Sheriff Picks.
As always, if you don’t like one of my picks, or have a song that you’d like added to the list, comment below. I’d love to hear what some of my readers have to say.
Featured Guitar Tab of Music from the 1970s
One of my earliest musical memories was my Dad blasting Jethro Tull on his record player while doing work around the house. To this day, when Jethro Tull comes on the radio, I inevitably turn the volume up several notches and embarrassingly start singing along. I happened to find this Guitar Tab of Aqualung by Jethro Tull the other day and thought I’d share it with you. The solo seems pretty spot on, so be sure to give it a try.
Also be sure to check out our selection of Guitar Tabs of Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin. Progressing from a simple, fingerpicked acoustic guitar to the loud, impressive guitar riffs heard later on, it’s no wonder Stairway To Heaven is Led Zeppelin’s most recognized song.
- School’s Out by Alice Cooper
- Don’t Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult
- Hotel California by The Eagles
- Killing Yourself To Live by Black Sabbath
- No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature by The Guess Who
Featured Bass Tab of Music from the 1970s
For a band that thrived on a freewheeling lifestyle and demanding tour schedule, Truckin’ by The Grateful Dead isn’t quite the positive view of “life on the road” that you might expect from arguably the greatest band of the psychedelic rock era. Regardless, it features a simple, bluesy bass guitar lick that’s perfect for an intermediate bassist, as this Bass Guitar Tab of Truckin’ by The Grateful Dead can attest to.
You can find another great bass line in this Bass Guitar Tab of Money by Pink Floyd. Just be aware of the tricky 7/4 time signature before you start!
- Feel Like Makin’ Love by Bad Company
- Layla by Eric Clapton
- Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
- Radar Love by Golden Earring
- Big Ten Inch Record by Aerosmith
Featured Drum Tab of Music from the 1970s
For the adventurous drummer, why not try your hand(s) - and foot - at a true highlight of late 70s rock, this Drum Tab of Xanadu by Rush. I mean, what drummer doesn’t want to learn to play like Neil Peart?
Finally, how about a little ditty by The Sex Pistols to help build up your chops, specifically one of these Drum Tabs of Pretty Vacant by The Sex Pistols. This is one of my favorite songs by this group of punk pioneers, and I think it’s held up well in the 30+ years since its release in 1977. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
- Let’s Stay Together by Al Green
- Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin
- I Wanna Be Sedated by The Ramones
- Runnin’ With The Devil by Van Halen
- Layla by Eric Clapton
