Song Tab of Sub Pop Recording Artists

Two weeks ago, as a kind of homage to indie record labels, we did a post featuring Song Tab of Fueled By Ramen Recording Artists. Well, this week we’re tackling the famed Sub Pop record label, widely known as the original grunge music label.

Began in Seattle, Washington in 1986, Sub Pop Records achieved fame in the late 1980s when three bands associated with the small label – Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney – broke into the popular mainstream, bringing the so-called “Seattle sound” to all of America. According to the Sub Pop website, however, the years following this breakout were surprisingly not too kind on the label’s pocketbooks, as they readily admitted that their philosophy of “hyping bands into the stratosphere costs lots of money.” Luckily, after some unfortunate layoffs and a deal with Warner Bros. Records the label rebounded, and has since released many highly successful albums by a diverse roster of artists, including The Shins and Iron & Wine.

This sampling includes both active and non-active bands, but is not meant to represent all Sub Pop artists that we offer free song tabs for. Feel free to do a band search to find your favorite Sub Pop band if it’s not listed below.
