Boston Tabs Removed From MXTabs

You may have noticed that tabs for several songs from rock band Boston, including their hit “More than a Feeling,” are no longer available on the MXTabs site. It’s important for us to be clear and honest with our users, and therefore we thought we should let you know the reason for their absence. Recently MXTabs received a fax from Hal Leonard Corporation requesting the removal of songs written by the band, as they claim to have an exclusive print agreement with the band, including digital... [Continue Reading]

Songs Music Publishing Joins MXTabs

Now that we’ve officially launched, and our site redesign is complete, it may seem like not much is happening at MXTabs.net these days, right? WRONG. Instead, our focus has shifted to securing additional licensing agreements and adding as many great TABs to our database as possible. To that end, we are excited to announce that Songs Music Publishing has signed a contract with MXTabs allowing us to display songs by their impressive roster of artists. To view their complete lineup, click here. TABs... [Continue Reading]

Domino Publishing Joins MXTabs

As we’ve mentioned in some recent blog posts as we get close to the launch, there has been a lot of interest from publishers to license MXTabs. Today we added another great publisher, Domino Publishing. Domino brings a ton of excellent bands to MX, including Clinic, Spiritualized, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Kills, The Lemonheads, Stereolab … we could go on, but just go to their MySpace page to see the whole list. Of course, now that this deal is in place you’ll be seeing tabs that... [Continue Reading]

10 Days to Go Until Launch!

Today’s the 20th, which means we basically have 10 days left until the official launch of MXTabs. Our designers and programmers are working their butts off on the redesign, but from what I’ve seen it is going to be quite an improvement over the alpha version of the site (the one you see now). Even though the majority of site updates are now being done behind closed doors in anticipation of the launch, one thing you will be seeing quite a bit of as we get close to July 1st is the addition... [Continue Reading]

MXTabs.net Interview Responses

Earlier today we answered some questions for an interview regarding MXTabs. After reading through the response, we thought it might be useful for us to share this information with all our users. It hasn’t been rewritten at all, so some of it might seem strangely written in the context of this blog post… but regardless it should give you all an idea of where we are coming from and where we are going with MXTabs. The MXTabs site is really not going to change much under Musicnotes. The way... [Continue Reading]

The End of MXTabs.net Pre-Launch Alpha Changes

Within the next 24 hours we expect to do our final publish of changes for the Alpha version of MXTabs. Once this happens, the site will continue to be available in the open alpha at www.mxtabs.net, but there won’t be any additional changes available to the public until we launch the official site on July 1st. In the meantime we’ll be busy finishing up the facelift and adding in the last remaining features for the site and community. All of this new work will be going on in a closed beta... [Continue Reading]

MXTabs Song Data

This week we’ve had four new people join the official MXTabs team. They are focusing on filling out data for our songs to help us get as much music licensed and up to the site as possible in anticipation of our upcoming launch. So, from now on you should start seeing quite a bit more new tabs going up to the site since we’re able to focus on this a lot more with the help of our new members. Also, we’ve recently signed quite a few deals to get more music to the site. We’re... [Continue Reading]

Tab Submissions to MXTabs.net

As of this afternoon, the tab submission system is officially live. We are currently rolling the entire submission to “the tab is actually on the site” process in several steps. For now, the portion that is in place is the system to submit the tab to the MXTabs site. Over the next few days we’ll be rolling out systems both internally and on the site for moderation, licensing, and user approval (as well as user feedback to know the status of the tabs). In the meantime, we’d... [Continue Reading]

Tab Displays Expanding to Other Countries

One of the most asked questions we get here at MX is some variation of “When will tabs be available in [insert country name]?” As we said back when we launched the Alpha version of MXTabs, tab displays will be limited to the United States at first, but then expanding to other countries once we start to work out the licensing in other territories.  Here’s the good news: We’ve finally started being able to support displaying some of our tabs in countries other than the United... [Continue Reading]
