Well, seeing as The Sheriff is feeling a bit self-indulgent today (as he sometimes does), I thought I’d simply pick a few of my favorite songs that MXTabs.net has guitar, bass & drum tabs available for. In addition to being one of those if-you-ask-me-five-minutes-from-now-I’d-give-a-different-answer type of things, I must also admit that I did not scour through all 34,000+ songs on MXTabs.net to come up with this list, as that would take far too long to do!

Still, it’s safe to say that the songs listed below are indeed some of my favorites, and ALL of them get a LOT of plays on my iPod. I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into my musical psyche, as well as forgive me for being selfish enough to subject you to The Sheriff’s favorite songs!

But most of us don’t need an astronomer to tell us that summer is ending, and that before long winter will be upon us. We simply observe the daylight growing shorter, feel the cool breeze in the air, and notice the leaves changing color. Throw in the bombardment of Halloween marketing campaigns that we endure every year beginning around this time, and that’s how most of us know when Autumn has finally arrived.

To pay tribute to The Sheriff’s favorite season, here are a handful of Autumn inspired song tabs to feast your eyes upon. As always, I’ve tried to include songs from as many different genres as possible, covering everything from Adult Alternative and British Invasion to Alternative Metal. Hope you enjoy!

It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating the end of the school year with our Guitar Tab of Popular Graduation Songs blog post. Hopefully everyone had a fun, relaxing summer, because now it’s time to once again shift gears and prepare for the upcoming school year.

While some people absolutely dread returning to class, others actually look forward to it. Most people, I suspect, fall somewhere in between. That’s why, in an effort to help make the transition back as smooth as possible, today we’re offering up Song Tabs of Back to School Songs. In style, the following tabs range the gamut from Punk-Pop to Hardcore Rap, so I guarantee there is something here for everyone’s taste.

The graduation ritual encompasses many things, including the commencement ceremony itself, graduation parties, and you guessed it, graduation music! Whether played at a ceremony by a school’s concert band, or as part of a student-edited photo montage at a senior dinner, it’s guaranteed that certain songs will continue to conjure up memories of graduation for years to come.

So what makes a good graduation song? It’s simple, really. The song should make you reflect in some way upon where you’ve been, the friendships you’ve made, and where you’re heading next. I think you’ll find that the songs listed below all meet this criteria.

If you happen to be graduating soon, then congrats! What song(s) are being used for your graduation ritual? And if you’ve already graduated, I’d be interested in knowing what song(s) still conjure up memories of that special time. For the record, The Sheriff can no longer listen to the Green Day song Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) without being reminded of his senior year in high school.

Incidentally, Earth Day is also a subject very close to The Sheriff’s heart. And for that reason, today I humbly offer up the following Song Tabs for Earth Day.

If not, that’s fine too. But just remember, it might be difficult to use your effects pedal if the ground around you is littered with plastic bottles and e-waste.

In my defense, however, it is technically Spring (FYI – if you’re seasonally challenged like I am, Spring began on March 20th this year), and our brief snow cover here has been melted away by the searing 45ºF temperatures of the past couple of days.

Furthermore, I’m well aware that most of you don’t live in the frigid North Country like the rest of us unfortunate MXTabs.net staffers, and that you are probably well on your way to enjoying warm weather, cool breezes, sandy beaches, picnics, baseball, and whatever else floats your Springtime-boat. So this week’s Sheriff Picks are especially for you, the warm-climate peoples of the world.

I do have one special request, however. I have it on top-secret good authority that if 1000+ guitarists simultaneously begin singing and playing Good Day Sunshine by The Beatles at exactly 5:12 PM CST on April 2, 2009, that Spring will finally blossom forth here in Madison, WI. So, I hope this plea his struck a chord with you (damn! another stupid, unintentional guitar pun), so for the love of your god, please give this a try and end our cabin fever!

That’s right, Saint Patrick’s Day is just right around the corner folks. Tuesday, March 17th to be exact. And to help everyone get ready for the big day, today I’m offering up a small selection of St. Patrick’s Day Song Tab for you to rock out to.

Most of these songs were written and performed by Irish bands or recording artists (Dropkick Murphys, Van Morrison), a few of them simply fit today’s theme (John Mayer, Alkaline Trio), but ALL of them are sure to get you into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit.

So get practicing, and may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows your dead!

For all you math whizzes out there, that means that I was 10 years old when the 1990s began and 20 years old when the decade ended. As I’m sure you know, those are very impressionable years of a person’s life, and although my musical tastes have continued to evolve, I think it’s fair to say that I’m a product of the 90s music scene.

As such, you will find a lot of Grunge and Alternative Rock on today’s Sheriff Picks: Song Tabs of Music from the 1990s. I also threw in a few Pop Rock, Metal, and Punk hits of the era to add a little diversity, but like I said, the focus this week is definitely on flannel shirts and Doc Martens.
